PRESBYTERIAN WOMEN

September 2017

September is always a special time of year for most who live in the Northwoods. At our house, the precursor for the leaves turning color is the acorns falling on the roof. We know summer is ending and fall is beginning. September also means the “Lunch Bunch” will start again. We also hope to hold the Chili cook-off. Please watch for the sign-up sheets and posters for the details.

Our Wedding Tea was held on August 21st with over 33 women and 3 men attending. We owe a debt of gratitude to Barb and Bob Schneider who came up the idea of celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary at the event, even thought their wedding anniversary is not until December. They were the start of the tea and looked splendid in their wedding attire. (How many of you can still fit into your wedding clothes today?) Barb looked lovely and Bob was handsome in his Navy Officer uniform, complete with the sword. The Schneiders furnished the lovely wedding cake and Barb decorated the tables with her artistic touch. We thank them for allowing us to share in their special celebration. After the refreshments were served, many of the attendees told their wedding stories and others brought photos of their wedding. It was an interesting and a fun afternoon.

We are grateful to Jillanne Consie for her beautiful flowers that she arranges so artistically for each occasion. Terry Foster, the Lockwood’s daughter, graciously agreed to be our photographer. We thank her for her time and talent. These events are a lot of work for the committee, but it is a joy to work with women who are so eager to make the event successful. Our committee was composed of Carol Gelwicks, co-president, Linda Lockwood, Arlene Morrison and Diane Galaty and of course Barb Schneider. Thank you all who worked and those who attended.

October will bring the return of the Small Supper Groups. These suppers are a wonderful way to better know the members of our Church and to share Christian fellowship. Watch for the sign-up sheet.

PW plans to hold a Christmas luncheon in December. Since the Andersons have been here, they have hosted a lovely Open House each December. They are no longer able to continue the tradition, so PW has stepped forward. We plan to have a catered luncheon on a Sunday in December. We do not have the date or the details, but will keep you posted.

Enjoy the beauty of the season. We are blessed to live in Northern Wisconsin where we can enjoy the beauty just by looking out of the window. At the same time that the leaves begin to fall, we will be saying goodbye to some of our snowbirds. Seems they just returned and now it is time for them to leave. We send our best wishes for their safe travels and hope they will all return to us in the spring.
